Print resources - Tutor resources Tutor resources are often developed in tandem with a workshop. Just like learners, however, we know that tutors have a preferred delivery style. Therefore we develop a range of different activities to compliment the training material so the tutor can vary their delivery. The reasons for the activities, and the learning outcomes that will result from them, are listed. This helps a tutor to adapt their workshop to suit the needs of the learners they have before them. The way we workAllowing variety and being responsive - to both the learners and the tutor - is an important part of the analysis process. Although it may mean that the time taken over the analysis is longer, the value in the training outcomes is far greater and well worthwhile. Special needs can also be catered for. We will bring in lan+guage specialists who can help us develop resources in another language or dual languages, and advise on cultural etiquette or appropriate workshop organisation. An exampleWhen FITEC wanted to develop NZQA standard training resources for Level 2 trainees they knew that the material would be delivered over a range of sites, some with very few computer resources. Moving the industry into a new eraFITEC also knew that the 500-plus trainers had varying degrees of knowledge of information technology, but the company knew that the new materials could move the industry into a new era by making more people comfortable with that technology. Our collective decision was to present the material with all resources on a single CD-ROM - nothing would be sent in printed form. We realised that if we kept it simple, everyone would benefit from using it. Trainer supportSession plans (like web pages) drove all activities. The trainer would open the session plan prior to a session and could see the following that were linked to each topic within a session:
Help topics guided the trainer in the management of different software in case it was unfamiliar to them. The CD-ROM also included teaching tips for running educationally sound workshops. Individual programsAs well as creating trainer-led sessions, some topics were delivered as programmes for the individual to work alone on. Again, these were kept simple, with links out only to activities for the individual to complete. Trainer involvement was reduced and the individual only needed a computer from which they ran the CD, and a connected printer. Both systems were extensively consulted over and piloted, with feedback being incorporated at many stages. The consultation process, itself, helped trainers become more familiar with how the material would be delivered. The project:
Now the industry is asking for more of the same. If you want to talk through with Edutech KM staff on how a similar system could be developed please Click here.
