Training Packages - CD-ROMs

There are different advantages for both online and CD ROM training delivery.

The advantage of a centralised (Internet or intranet) system is that you can quickly update your training to cater for new information or qualification requirements. CD-ROMs become dated and must be recalled and replaced, but they do allow more resource-hungry media to be included.

Good reasons for using CD-ROMs

There are several good reasons why you might consider tailoring a training course for CD-ROM delivery:

• Your workforce may be widely scattered and not have access to reliable Internet connection.
• You may want to include more extensive video or audio content.
• You may want to give-away information as an enticement onto the training course.
• You may want to use an authoring program to create the course and the resulting program would to be too 'heavy' to run across the Internet.

Even though you lose the auto-collection of assessment or test results, these can be emailed, or printed and mailed. Content can also be date-protected and encrypted on a CD.

Our example

One client of ours wanted a training package that could be delivered via both mediums because they had a widely scattered workforce. While most employees had a computer, not all had Internet access.

The training program was not going to be high-end multi-media, so we were able to create a browser-driven program that included what a shelf full of manuals would normally cover - all on one CD-ROM. Using simple templates, each learning module was produced for a few thousand dollars.
